Community Service - Spring 2014
CMSV 100 Community Service 100-01
0 credit hours
Community Service graduation requirement: Once registered, students attend the mandatory CMSV 100 Orientation to get prepared for the experience, find out what types of service opportunities are available, and to understand what paperwork is required. They participate in 27 hours of direct service and complete these hours during the semester registered for the course (20 hours minimum must be completed at one site). In addition, students inform Community Service of service placement, participate in a RAP (Reflection, Action, Participation) session, evaluate the experience, log the service hours, and have the service site approve those hours and complete an evaluation. The intent of the requirement is to have students serve within the Greater Springfield community, and primarily with one of the more than 40 partner sites listed on the Community Service Opportunities List. If students are interested in serving with a non-partner site, they must complete a Self-Design proposal. The experience must meet the guidelines for CMSV 100 and be approved by the Director of Community Service. It should also explain how the experience will help the student achieve the desired outcomes of CMSV 100.
