Dr. Melissa Martin Schulz, Visiting Associate Professor of Education, came to the Department of Education at Wittenberg University in the Fall of 2016. Melissa teaches literacy and early childhood education courses at Wittenberg University. Melissa earned her doctoral degree in early childhood literacy education from The Ohio State University in 2002. Melissa engaged in an academic year of post-doctoral research to become a University Trainer for Reading Recovery at the Ohio State University. In her role as a Reading Recovery University Trainer, she trained Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders and partnered with various public school administrators throughout the state of Ohio to effectively implement Reading Recovery into their school districts.

Prior to coming to Wittenberg University, Melissa earned tenure at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2012. Melissa's research focuses on the preparation of teachers to serve the needs of diverse learners, and the development of partnerships between schools, families, and communities. Melissa has prepared and delivered twenty-four conference presentations and she has published fifteen peer-reviewed articles or book chapters. Melissa co-edited and authored two chapters in the book Literacy for Diverse Learners: Finding Common Ground in Today's Classrooms.

Melissa lives in Beavercreek with her husband Andrew and their two sons Adam and Evan.
