Theatre Scholarships

While many scholarship students major in Theatre, recipients of Theatre scholarships may pursue any major offered at Wittenberg. Scholarship students need only maintain involvement in the department’s classes or productions to remain eligible for renewal.

Fine Arts Scholarships are offered to incoming students who display exceptional talent and promise in theatre and are awarded for up to $2,500 per year. These awards are renewable annually. Any prospective first-year student may apply for these scholarships.

Financial need is not a determining factor in the Theatre scholarship process. The Department’s scholarship recipients are eligible to receive other types of need-based assistance, as well as university grants.* While students may apply and interview/audition for Theatre scholarships prior to applying to Wittenberg, scholarships cannot be awarded until students have been accepted to the university.

While a Wittenberg on-campus visit is highly preferred, the Theatre program will consider requests for video auditions and interviews when travel or production schedules make this impossible. For all auditions/interviews, contact Academic Administrative Assistant Sue Apple at (800) 677-7558, ext. 7464 or via email at sapple@wittenberg.edu.

Schedule an audition and/or interview

  • Theatre performance: Prepare two contrasting pieces. (e.g., comedic/dramatic, classical/contemporary, musical theatre/legit, etc.) not exceeding three minutes in length. These memorized pieces from published theatrical works should demonstrate your range and skill as a performer.
  • Theatre design, stage management, technical theatre, directing, playwriting, and other theatre fields: Bring a portfolio of your work to your interview. This might include production or construction photos, promptbooks, technical drawing, or scripts.
  • Dance: You will be taught a brief routine, participate in an appropriate technique class, and perform a dance of less than three minutes that you have choreographed or that has been set for you.
