Springfield, Ohio - Music at Wittenberg will offer three concerts in Weaver Chapel this weekend which are free and open to the public.
The Wittenberg Choir, under the direction of Donald Busarow, professor of music, will be featured in the 21st Annual Hymn Festival at 8 p.m. Friday, April 19. The Choir will be joined by choirs from five local churches - Covenant Presbyterian, Christ Episcopal, Good Shepherd Lutheran, Grace Lutheran, all of Springfield and Peace Lutheran of Beavercreek. Busarow will be at the organ in addition to directing the choirs.
At 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, the Wittenberg Handbell Choir and the Wittenberg Singers, under the direction of Trudy Faber and Joyce Wendel, respectively, will present their spring concert at 4 p.m. The program includes a number of works composed within the past four years, including a recent composition written especially for the Handbell Choir by Wittenberg sophomore Tara Bridge.
The 21st presentation of the Gabrieli Festival will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21. This celebration of the music of Giovanni Gabrieli and other composers for brass instruments is hosted by the Wittenberg Brass Choir, under the direction of Daniel Zehringer of the department of music. The acoustics of the Chapel are ideal for the antiphonal brass music composed by Gabrieli. Featured guest ensembles will include the Miami University Trumpet Ensemble, Jim Olcott, director; the Miami Universty Brass Choir, Tim Olt, director; and The Wright Brass of the Air Force Band of Flight.
