Wittenberg Center For Musical Development Announces Summer Classes

Springfield, Ohio– Wittenberg University’s Center for Musical Development (CMD) is offering summer 2011 music enrichment opportunities for children and adults. Pre-registration is underway, and pricing includes registration fees.
Beginning Piano Class for Elementary School Students offers first piano lessons in a small group setting to learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms. Students will play music of increasing challenge in Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes for students in grades 1-6 will meet from 4-4:45 p.m. every Thursday from June 30 through July 28, in Room 301 Krieg Hall, with Tiffany Cary providing instruction. Textbook for the class is Bastien Basic Piano Primer Book (pink), by James Bastien. The cost is $65 for five classes.
Summer Start-Up Piano Class for Ages 12 through Adults is designed for older students or those who have wanted to learn or to resume lessons after several years and offers small group instruction on how to read music, musical notation and rhythms in Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes meet from 7-7:45 p.m. every Wednesday between June 15 and July 27, in Room 301 Krieg Hall, with Jack McPeek providing instruction. Textbook for the class is The Older Beginner Piano Course WP 32, by James Bastien. The cost is $77 for six classes.
Voice Class will help you sing properly so you will be able to use your voice for many years. Learn to warm up, use proper diction and breathing to perform songs chosen by the teacher and the student. Classes meet from 6:30-7:15 p.m. every Tuesday from June 14 through 28, in Room 402 Krieg Hall, with Nancy Davis providing instructions. The cost is $41 for three classes.
Discovering Music for Young Children (Infant to Age 5) offers an experience for caregivers, parents, grandparents or nannies to participate with their children. The whole family is welcome, and everyone participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening to music and stories, and watching or exploring musical instruments. Classes meet from 1-1:30 p.m. Tuesdays from June 14 through 28, in the Faculty Dining Room of the Benham-Pence Student Center, with Nancy Davis providing instruction. The cost is $29 for three classes.
In addition, private lessons are available in piano, organ, strings (including guitar and lute), wind instruments, voice, computer composition, percussion, Suzuki violin and piano. For complete information go to www.wittenberg.edu/sce, click on Center for Musical Development.
