Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Center for Musical Development (CMD) announces its fall 2013 music enrichment opportunities for children and adults to take place from September through December. Pre-registration is underway, and pricing includes registration fees.
Appreciating Great American Pop Standards: 1920-1960 offers a clearer understanding of the artistry that makes music from this era so appealing, including information about the artists and their approach to music. Classes will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. every Tuesday from Sept. 24-Oct. 22 in room 302 Krieg Hall, with Paul Parlato, dean emeritus of the School of Community Education, providing instruction. The cost is $35 for five classes.
Beginning Guitar Class teaches students to execute notes, rhythm and harmony. Students must bring their own instrument and blank manuscript book. Classes will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 17-Oct. 22 in room 229 Krieg Hall. The cost for six classes is $101 with Janet Ogg providing instruction.
Piano Class for Ages 12-Adult teaches students to read music, musical notation, rhythms and vocabulary in Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes will meet from 6-6:45 p.m. every Friday from Sept. 20-Nov. 8 in room 301 Krieg Hall, with Jack McPeek providing instruction. Textbook for the class is The Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien. The cost is $101 for eight classes.
Beginning Piano for Elementary Age Students, Grades 1-6 offers lessons in a small group setting in Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Students will learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms. Textbook for the class is Bastien Basic Piano Primer Book by James Bastien. Classes will meet from 3:15-4 p.m. every Tuesday from Sept. 3-Oct. 8 in room 301 Krieg Hall with Tiffany Cary providing instruction. The cost is $77 for six classes. A second session will run from Nov. 1-Dec. 13 at the same time, location and cost.
Voice Class improves students’ vocal skills, including use of proper diction and breathing to perform songs chosen by the teacher and the student. Classes will meet from 6:30-7 p.m. every Tuesday from Sept. 10-Nov. 5, in room 402 Krieg Hall with Nancy Davis providing instruction. The cost is $77 for nine classes.
Discovering Music For Young Children offers an opportunity for caregivers, parents and grandparents to participate in the learning process with their children. Everyone in attendance participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening to music and stories, watching and exploring musical instruments. Classes for infants through age 2 meet from 12:30-1 p.m. and classes for children ages 3-5 meet from 1-1:30 p.m., both on Tuesdays from Sept. 10-Oct. 8. All classes will be held in the Alumni Room of the Benham-Pence Student Center with Nancy Davis providing instruction. The cost is $45 for five classes.
In addition, private lessons are available in piano, organ, strings (including electric or bass guitar and lute), wind instruments, voice, percussion, Suzuki violin and piano, and need-based scholarships are available.
