Expanding Horizons

Undergraduate research provides the unique opportunity for motivated students to take their college learning experience beyond the ordinary. They are able to expand their personal and educational horizons to achieve a deeper and broader understanding of their academic major and their chosen professional field.

Wittenberg’s Undergraduate Research Symposium is hosted by the University Honors Program and is intended to bring together undergraduate students from the region to share their passion for excellence in research, learning and growth.

Symposium Goals:

  • Bring together undergraduate students doing Honors level research and scholarly or creative projects to share their work in a semi-professional, conference-type environment
  • Give students the opportunity to express the results of the significant time and effort they have spent on these projects
  • Recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of these highly motivated and talented students on a bigger stage
  • Facilitate interaction and networking between students in their fields of study with others who will potentially become their professional peers

Luke DennisKeynote Speaker - Luke Dennis '00:

Prior to his current positions as General Manager at WYSO Public Radio and President of Miami Valley Public Media, Luke Dennis served in a variety of leadership positions in the Miami Valley and Boston, MA, including executive director of Muse Machine and curator of the Harvard Theatre Collection.

He joined WYSO in 2012, first as development director and later succeeding his mentor Neenah Ellis as station manager. He’s a proud graduate of Wittenberg University and also studied at Tufts University. A native of Wilmington, Ohio, Luke has lived in Yellow Springs with his family since 2006.

Call For Proposals:

  • Undergraduate students in all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for academic presentations, academic posters or visual/performing arts projects (performing arts projects may be presented by video or still photography with appropriate narrative explanation either as a presentation or poster)
  • Proposals should be submitted at the time of registration
  • All entries should represent the highest quality of undergraduate scholarship and effort  
  • Information required from undergraduate presenters (see registration page):
    • Presenter information
      • Name
      • Hometown
      • Representing college
      • Anticipated graduation year
      • Contact e-mail address
    • Project Title
    • Presentation or Poster
    • Brief description of the project (300 words or less)
    • Standard computer & audio-visual equipment will be provided in the presentation rooms. Any additional needs for technical or audio-visual equipment should be specified on the registration form.
    • Tables will be provided for poster sessions. Recommended maximum poster size is 36” x 48”. If your poster is not designed for free standing on a standard table please plan to bring your own easel or indicate your need for an easel on the registration form.
