Thursday, April 4thThursday, April 4thAmerica/New_YorkEmpty BowlsThe idea for Empty Bowls is simple: Participants create ceramic bowls and organize an event to serve a meal of soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. In exchange for a bowl and meal, the guest gives a minimum donation of $20. The sponsor chooses a local hunger fighting organization to receive the money collected. If you have questions about Wittenberg University's Empty Bowls Event, contact Scott Dooley, Professor of Art at (937) 327-6327 or sdooley@wittenberg.edu. Friday, April 5thFriday, April 5thAmerica/New_YorkPhilosophy for Difficult Conversations: Difficult Questions about Campus SpeechOften, we avoid difficult conversations for fear of conflict, particularly when these conversations deal with controversial issues. In this series, we’ll use philosophical methods to ask important questions about controversial issues and facilitate respectful and effective conversations on those issues. All are welcome– students, staff, faculty, and community members! At this event, we will use philosophical methods to ask and discuss difficult questions about the ethics of inviting speakers to college campuses, and the ethical and epistemic impacts of restrictions (and lack of restrictions) on campus speech over lunch. All (including students, faculty, and staff) are welcome! Please RSVPRoom 300; Hollenbeck Hall
