AbstractThis essay explores the mental illness monomania as it is reflected in the Herman Melville's Moby Dick and in the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe. This essays looks at how monomania affects the intellect, the will, and the emotions of its sufferers and how monomania arises from fear.
