AbstractSince the discovery of vast amounts of natural resources, especially energy resources, in Russia, Russian policy has changed in many respects. Russia has shaped its economic policy around the use and sale of energy resources, and has used its resource wealth to shape domestic and international policies. I argue that Russia's current dependence on energy resources to support economic development and foreign policy positions may limit its future policy implications. This paper examines Russia's unique political and economic situation with regard to energy.
