| Abstract | This study will serve as a causal analysis of political freedom, economic freedom, and economic well-being for the post-socialist world and it will attempt to bring more understanding to the relationship between politics and economics and their role in the process of democratization. Current literature does not allow for a clear explanation of these relationships, and thus, a causal analysis is necessary in order to better examine these relationships in the post-socialist states. This study will show the causal relationships that exist among political freedom, economic freedom, and economic well-being for the post-socialist world. Further analyses will break down this region into three subgroups. In doing so, this study will also show the importance of regional variation. This paper shows that there is a causal relationship among political freedom, economic freedom, and economic well-being in the post-socialist states during the period of democratization, and this relationship is complex. This study also shows that regional variation is an important factor in determining causal relationships. |
