End of Semester Closings (Fall & Spring)

At the end the Fall semester, Residence Life must prepare for potential new students starting in the Spring. Different scenarios may occur depending on whether your residence hall room has a vacancy, please refer to the section that applies best to you. Please note, more information about Summer housing can be found on the Summer Housing page of the website, and more information will be sent to student Wittenberg emails in the Spring semester.

End of Year Closing

Students must sign up for a checkout time with an RA within 24 hours of their last exam. If you need to stay after the first hall closing, you must have a valid reason (e.g. ushering at Commencement, participating in Commencement, etc.) and must fill out a Commencement Housing Request. We are happy to announce that we have partnered with Dorm Room Movers, a summer storage, and moving company!

First Hall Closing: Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 10 a.m.

Second Hall Closing: Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 4 p.m.

Please complete a full move-out by setting up a check out time with your RA within 24 hours of your last exam. Remove all belongings, clean and sweep your room, and hand your key to your RA. Please note, your room will be inspected for damages, and fines may be issued to your student account by the Area Coordinator associated with that building. RAs/CAs do not assign damage charges.

If you are NOT returning to campus after the break:

Please make a checkout appointment with a Residence Life staff member to review closing procedures, the damage assessment process, and return your room key. The room will be inspected by Residence Life and Physical Plant professional staff before final determination of damages is made. Please note, RAs/CAs (undergraduate, paraprofessional staff members) do not assign damage charges. Residence Life has the right to assess charges based on the room's condition, the information on the RCR, and whether or not the Student checked out properly. Failure to check out properly will result in a $50 charge. If a student does not return the room key there will be a charge for a lock change. The student also shares responsibility for the condition of the living unit's common spaces. The student must remove all personal belongings from the room and common spaces at the time of checkout; any belongings left behind will be considered abandoned and the student will be charged for the removal or disposal.
