In the last few days, we have seen an increase in the number of symptomatic individuals seeking COVID-19 testing and testing positive. It is clear that a few clusters of the virus have emerged among students’ social networks. These clusters appear to be interconnected, and we must take steps to do what we can to reduce the spread of the virus on campus. Therefore, at this time:
- All residential students are prohibited from having any guests or visitors until further notice. For students living in residence halls, this means no guests in individual rooms. For students living in Witten’burbs’ properties, this mean no guests for the entire unit/household.
- All residential students are not to leave campus unless it is for essential purposes or they have been asked to go home to isolate or quarantine. Essential purposes include: work, internships, or academic-sponsored learning experiences. Residential students who leave campus for extended periods may be subject to testing/quarantine/isolation upon their return.
As a reminder, it is imperative that every member of our community maintain a minimum distance of six feet from others at all times and wear your face coverings. It is evident that the small clusters of outbreaks are due to a lack of social distancing and/or wearing of face coverings.
We recognize that the new limitations are difficult, but they are necessary for the health and safety of our community. We also want to commend our campus for what has been working well since we resumed in-person learning. Our classroom, dining, and symptom identification protocols are being followed, as are the guidelines for using the Health, Wellness, and Athletics facilities.
During this time, please continue to use the Report a Concern Form and/or email the COVID Response Team. Many thanks to everyone who has already emailed the team or completed a form. We are working diligently to respond to you.
Now more than ever, we must continue to abide by our shared expectations and health and safety protocols if we are to remain together on campus. Thank you for doing your part each day. It makes a huge difference.
