Record-Breaking Placement Rates

Wittenberg's Career Services Offers Students Great Opportunities Right Out Of College

Wittenberg graduates achieved the highest job placement rate ever, 97.6 percent, in the latest Career Status Survey conducted by Wittenberg University Career Services.

Wendy Smiseck, Director of Career Services, calls the most recent placement rate “phenomenal.” In previous years, the overall placement rate has been around 90 percent. Not only is the placement rating high, but 93.1 percent of survey participants responded that they are “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their career status.

Determined by the number of alumni who work full-time, enroll in a post-baccalaureate program, or are voluntarily unemployed, the placement rate is calculated by surveying Wittenberg graduates one year after graduation in order to allow for job shifting and finding employment.

“It’s a lot of work,” Smiseck said. “We go through several months of asking and sifting through information.”

The compiled results, though, serve as a powerful employment tool for current students, who can use the survey to find contacts for future jobs and to network with alumni. Career Services maintains records of internships held by students in each academic department, along with jobs held by alumni after graduation. Students can find career opportunities based on their specific area of study or through alumni employed in specific career fields.

Smiseck urges students to visit the Career Services office and take full advantage of every service they offer students who are thinking about the future.

“It’s never too early to start looking for jobs,” Smiseck said. “If you don’t know what you want to do after graduation, we’re here to help you figure that out. And if you know what you want to do, we’re here to help you accomplish your goals.”

About Career Services

Career Services offers a number of resources that equip students with the knowledge they need to obtain fulfilling, professional employment. Through how-to guides, career fairs, and consulting sessions, Career Services helps students build their professional image, construct strong résumés and cover letters, prepare for job interviews, find graduate and professional schools, network with future employers, and more.

While Smiseck understands that seeking help for the future can be overwhelming and not everyone knows exactly what they want to do, she advises students to “know what your skills are and see what matches that in the work force.”

The Career Services office is located in room 210 of the Shouvlin Center and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the school year. Walk in hours are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, or make by appointment.
