Bayley Music Experience

Weeklong immersion set for June 12-16

Open to young musicians from throughout the Springfield community, the 2023 Bayley Music Experience (BME) will take place June 12-16 on Wittenberg’s campus in Krieg Hall from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a weeklong series of musical enrichment opportunities taught by professional music instructors. The BME is made possible through a generous gift from Ruth Kunkel Bayley, Wittenberg class of 1942.

Students will be placed in small groups to receive instruction focusing on refining music reading skills and techniques. Students will also enjoy performances by professionals and peers in the ‘Courtyard Specials’ mini concerts, which spotlight local musicians who will share their talents and the stories of their musical journey with the participants. At the end of the week, the young musicians perform at a special recital open to parents and guests.

The BME will focus on various string, percussion, keyboard, wind instruments, and the singing voice, and will include special activities to hone in on musical skills using a variety of instruments and fun techniques. Students meet together for work on ensemble pieces that will be performed on the last day's recital.

When filling out the BME application, students are asked to indicate their primary instrument(s), years of taking lessons, group performance, etc. Students will not be denied admittance for lack of lessons, but accepted on willingness to explore, learn, and try new musical experiences as described in a statement. A limited number of students are accepted, so submission of applications as soon as possible is recommended. Acceptance will be based on the date of receipt of the completed application and fee of $120. To apply go to:  Bayley Music Experience Application or check out the website here.
