Meet Eric Werner ’13
“My fellow students have inspired me the most at Wittenberg.”
Eric Werner of Cincinnati, Ohio, fondly remembers the advice of his parents.
“I am fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to follow my passions and job options would follow suit,” Werner said. “For me, I've always found answers to the big questions through literature, and it was a natural progression to come to college and study literature more closely. Now, four years and many, many books later, I'm graduating even more passionate about literature plus I have a job.”
Following Commencement, Werner will head south to Kentucky to work in the dramaturgy/literary management department of the Actors Theatre of Louisville.
“I'll be reading scripts, researching for productions and working with new play development,” he said.
Getting to this next chapter in his life, however, is the result of a support system that will likely continue well after Wittenberg.
“My fellow students have inspired me the most at Wittenberg. Their energy, excitement and dedication in the face of tremendously busy schedules and stressful lives have kept me going when things were a bit hectic for me.”
As for advice to the students who follow him, Werner said, “You have to go to a university that feels like home. Wherever you go, you'll still have to work to make it your home, but Wittenberg gives you the most opportunities to do so. This place makes it easy to fit in and feel like you're an important part of the community.”
