New Witt Wednesday Podcasts

Career Prep Program Highlights Alumni Success, Networking, Wisdom, And So Much More

Wittenberg’s Office of Career & Professional Development in the COMPASS: Sweet Success Center at Thomas Library has launched an exciting new podcast series this summer and beyond.

Titled “Witt Wednesday Pod,” the series features short interviews by accomplished Wittenberg alumni, professionals from all fields, and even some favorite faculty members. The podcast also serves as a source for ‘nuggets of wisdom’ with such topics as making the most of an internship, finding vocations, networking, and preparing for the future. In addition, guests often share tips on discerning one’s vocation and kickstarting a successful professional life. New episodes are released every Wednesday at noon.

Launched on May 26, the first podcast featured Callan Swaim, class of 2016, a market manager for the Expedia Group in London, England. Callan shared the importance of finding a mentor, different types of mentors, and introduced listeners to the concept of a "mentor board." Then on June 2, John Shumate, class of  1999, current member of Wittenberg’s Board of Directors and longtime leader in brand marketing and management, having worked for Eastbay and MGM Resorts International, talked about “building a network from scratch.” As an added bonus, Shumate has also offered to donate a dollar for every LinkedIn request he receives from Wittenberg students to the University.

Next up on June 9 will be Madeline Kraft, class of 2016, an event and investor relations coordinator for Wind Point Partners in Chicago, who will discuss informational interviewing.

“This has been a fun project that’s focused on providing career/vocational content to students,” said Heath Queen, host of the Witt Wednesday Pod, internship coordinator at Wittenberg and a 2016 alumnus of Wittenberg. “We think there are opportunities for students, alumni, and prospective students to find this valuable and interesting. The podcast is available at all the major podcast sites.”
