A Community Commitment

Established in 2008, The Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Civic & Urban Engagement is the most visible manifestation of Wittenberg’s commitment to community service, civic engagement and economic partnership with the local and regional community. The Hagen Center ties Wittenberg to the community and the community to Wittenberg through service, internships, research, engaged teaching and learning, and off-campus employment.

Community Service

The Community Service program provides students with opportunities to serve, to connect with the greater Springfield community, and to reflect on the service experience to better understand themselves, community needs, and their responsibility in advancing the common good.

Summer Civic Internship Program

Our Internship programs were created as an effective means for generating scholarship, service, and collaboration between Wittenberg University and the Springfield community.
