Happy 175th, Wittenberg! On this day in 1845, Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, was chartered, founded by Ezra Keller and a group of pastors who broke with the German-speaking Lutheran church and created the English Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Ohio. Named for the German city where Martin Luther lived and preached, Wittenberg is the third-oldest Lutheran college in the U.S. Today it has 1619 students and is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Much of the scenic, rolling campus is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, including Wittenberg’s first building, Myers Hall (pictured), built from 1846 to 1851. #WittProud #WittenbergUniversity #Commit2Witt @wittenberguniversity
