Visual Arts Residency

In celebration of Black History Month, Wittenberg University welcomes Elisabeth Haviland James, documentary filmmaker, to present the visual arts residency at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 5-6, at the Springfield City School District's John Legend Theater at The Dome, 700 S. Limestone Street, as the 2017-18 Wittenberg Series continues.

Empty Bowls

The idea for Empty Bowls is simple: Participants create ceramic bowls and organize an event to serve a meal of soup and bread. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. In exchange for a bowl and meal, the guest gives a minimum donation of $20. The sponsor chooses a local hunger fighting organization to receive the money collected.

Wittenberg University’s annual Medieval Candlelight Vespers service, better known as Candlemas, will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, in historic Weaver Chapel. Pre-service music begins at 7:15 p.m.
