Tigers Returning Home

Fun Activities Planned for Homecoming Weekend

Each year many Wittenberg Tigers make the journey back to a place that they called home for four years during Homecoming Weekend. It doesn’t matter if it’s a one-year reunion or the 60th; Tigers from all generations keep coming together for one massive weekend of Wittenberg pride.

“Alumni from all class years return for Homecoming each year to reconnect with friends, faculty and campus,” said Linda Beals, director of alumni and parent engagement. “This was 'home' for four of the most transformative years of their lives, and our alumni return to celebrate their passion for the institution.”

There are plenty of things to do on campus during Homecoming Weekend 2016 beginning with a bonfire, sponsored by the Union Board, at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 on the lawn across from Kreig Hall. Also taking place Oct. 5-9 will be reunions, golf outings, special lunches, speakers, the Athletics Hall of Honor dinner, the Alumni Awards breakfast, Greek open houses, sporting events and much more.

All weekend long, the Wittenberg University Department of Theatre and Dance will present its 2016 fall semester Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 6-8 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 in Chakeres Memorial Theatre, 905 Woodlawn Ave.

On Friday, Oct. 7, Wittenberg will also host a series of three panels in Bayley Auditorium called “A Celebration of Lifelong Learning” from 1 to 4:30 p.m. “A Celebration of Lifelong Learning” is an alumni-led career panel series to help current students extract the most out of their education.

Also on Friday from 8:30 to 11 p.m., there will be an all-campus and alumni ‘Welcome Back To Witt Party’ at Founders Pub, located in the basement of the Benham-Pence Student Center. Come join alumni and current students for a game of Jeopardy starting at 9 p.m.

The fun continues with the traditional tailgating beginning at 10 a.m. until game time on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Tigers take on DePauw in the football game at 1 p.m.

The Communications and Business Leadership Experience (known as CABLE) is celebrating its 10th year on campus with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, as well as a short presentation at the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The weekend-long celebration ends with a church service of Holy Communion in Weaver Chapel at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 with special music being provided by the Wittenberg Choir. All reunion classes, visitors, and current students are welcome.
