Social Work is unique in its focus on both people and their environment. Social workers aim to enhance individuals’ well-being by focusing not only on internal factors, but external ones, such as poverty, that impact a person’s situation and outlook. With the current high demand for social workers, students have the opportunity to prepare for a variety of work settings, including clinics, hospitals, schools, government agencies, correctional facilities and more.

The 3-2 Program with CWRU’s Mandel School

Students interested in this program spend three years at Wittenberg completing the general education program and a portion of their major in either Psychology or Sociology. Students then apply for admission to the social work program at CWRU’s Mandel School.

Upon acceptance and matriculation at CWRU, students begin their graduate courses in social work, which combine research, theory and hands-on practice to help them tackle many of today’s complex social challenges. After completing the first year at CWRU, students receive a bachelor of arts (B.A.) from Wittenberg.

During the second year at CWRU, the program focuses on field education and coursework in the student’s area of interest (e.g., Aging, Mental Health, School Social Work, Health). After the second year, students receive a master of social work (MSW) and are eligible to pursues licensure in all 50 states.

Although Wittenberg students are not guaranteed admission to CWRU’s MSW program at the Mandel School, the acceptance rate for our students has been 100 percent.
