Mary Zuidema is the Director of the Language Learning Center and teaches Spanish courses in Wittenberg's World Languages and Cultures department. She received her B.A. and M.A. from Marquette University in Spanish language and literature and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Curriculum & Instruction with a minor in Second Language Acquisition. She taught courses in Spanish and in World Language Education before coming to Wittenberg in 2017. Her dissertation focused on cultural identity and world language pedagogy development through performance and theatre practices.
She is currently working on a book based on her investigations of using performance ethnography in a World Language Teacher Education course as well as preparing a longitudinal study of a year in the life of a Language Learning Center. Other research interests include improvisation comedy in Education, social justice-based theatre and performance in the Spanish-speaking world, and linguistics.
