During this unprecedented time, we deeply appreciate your understanding and patience as we have worked through issues and guidance regarding the possibility of crediting student accounts for some portion of room and board charges. At Wittenberg, the health and safety of our campus community is our highest priority, and we needed to focus our energy the last few weeks on ensuring your well-being and that of all our faculty and staff, and on making sure academic program progress continued.
On March 18, 2020, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global health crisis prompted the University to cease all in-person instruction, and, with limited exceptions for emergencies, close campus housing and dining operations for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. The closure was in the best interest of all students and University personnel, and the decision aligns with guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Clark County Combined Health District.
Legislative and legal guidance and action seem to be occurring regularly and rapidly during these times, and often there is conflicting information on what may or may not most benefit students and Wittenberg. We are currently reviewing options to offer financial support to students during this difficult time. One option we are considering is a refund or a credit of partial room and board charges for the spring semester. Under any policy that is announced, no refunds will be returned until June 2020. We hope to provide more definitive guidance on this no later than April 30th, but please know that we will be issuing refunds or credits for some portion of the room and board charges that you were, unfortunately, unable to utilize.
During this time of challenge, we hope that you and your families remain safe and healthy. I miss seeing you every day and look forward to the time we are all back together at Wittenberg.
