Empty Bowls Successful Again

32nd Annual Event Raised Over $38,000 This Year For Second Harvest Food Bank

Another successful year is in the books for Wittenberg’s 32nd Annual Empty Bowls event, bringing in $38,201 for the Second Harvest Food Bank and equating to 191,005 meals for those in need.

Empty Bowls is virtually a 100% profit fundraiser with almost all the materials, food and time donated for the event. The 32-year fundraising total for the event is now at $743,986, which equates to over 4,183,308 meals for those in need in Clark, Champaign, and Logan counties.

“Thanks to all that came out to support the event,” said Scott Dooley, professor and chair of the Wittenberg Art Department, who serves as the Empty Bowls coordinator. “I am continually amazed by Wittenberg and the Springfield community. Truly inspirational! I also want to extend a huge thank you to the Parkhurst Dining staff. Parkhurst is a major event sponsor for Empty Bowls and helped with food preparation and clean-up for the event. Without the Parkhurst staff as our partners on this project, we would not be able to run such an event. There are just so many people who help make this event a success each year.”

Aliyah Baker, development specialist for the Second Harvest Food Bank, lined up food donors, event sponsors and volunteers. Second Harvest worked with area businesses to donate soup and solicited event sponsors from the community.
