The Wittenberg Health, Wellness & Athletics Complex is an investment in the future of Wittenberg University and our local community. The combination of outstanding academic programs, competitive athletics and diverse recreational opportunities are so vital to Wittenberg University. This new facility will allow growth at the school and in Springfield. Student success and retention is at the heart of the new initiative.
Shaping today’s economy and tomorrow’s workforce
Wittenberg is already a leader in providing exceptional programs in the sciences. Growing interest from students and demand for professionals in health-related fields brings expanding opportunities for students who want to pursue careers in nursing, exercise science, sports management and other health and fitness careers.
Education for the 21st Century
The restoration and expansion initiative will encourage students to actively share ideas, and work closely with faculty and peers. New spaces will further enhance student success and transform the way learning takes place and with state-of-the-art technology. The new facility will create new academic and athletic programs supporting 24 intercollegiate athletics teams, 14 club teams/intramurals and recreation opportunities for the entire community.
In 2014, a large portion of the campus was designated a historic district on the national register allowing an opportunity to create a robust 21st-century living and learning environment for today’s students. This initiative paves the way for future capital projects supporting Wittenberg’s tradition of excellence for years to come.
This historic renovation and building project will touch the lives of all Wittenberg students, staff, alumni, and the greater Springfield community. It is truly a unique construction project that will completely change the complexion of the campus and provide a building that few, if any campuses of Wittenberg's size will possess.
The construction of a this new multi-purpose facility and restoration of the 1929 Fieldhouse and 1982 Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center will reflect the interdisciplinary nature of academics and athletics at Wittenberg University.
