CABLE Group PhotoCommunication and Business Leadership Experience (CABLE)

CABLE is a unique, high-impact professional development opportunity open to Communication, Business, and Sport Management majors and minors. Students learn how to present themselves professionally, network with communication practitioners in a variety of fields, conduct research on case studies and present recommendations to those professionals, and ultimately create a smoother transition for themselves into their career after graduating from Wittenberg.

Honor Council Student Member

Student members will meet periodically during the year with faculty and staff members of the Honor Council to accomplish the following: (a) Maintain and enforce standards of academic integrity. (b) Create and conduct educational programming designed to promote academic integrity. (c) Advise and consult with the student body, faculty members, and administrative officers on matters pertaining to academic integrity. (d) Serve on Honor Council Hearing Boards to explore and investigate the incident giving rise to the appearance of academic dishonesty and to reach an informed conclusion as to whether academic dishonesty occurred.

Education Department Student Advisory Board Executive Team

The Education Department Student Advisory Board was established in 1968 and is made up of Education majors/minors and Educational Studies majors/minors who are either elected by their peers or appointed by the department faculty. Their role is: 1) To have voice and vote in curriculum and policy decisions of the Department. 2) To communicate the concerns of teacher candidates to the Department. 3) To provide a communication link between faculty and teacher candidates. 4) To help the Education Department strengthen the Teacher Education Program. The "Executive Team" is a new subset of the Board who will be elected by the Board themselves. They will serve as "department ambassadors" and conduct purposeful readings and reflections on developing leadership skills that actualize the department's mission of "Developing Educational Leaders for Constructive Social Change."

Men's Lacrosse Team Leader

Provide guidance, instruction, direction and leadership to the team for the purpose of achieving the key result of establishing and maintaining team culture. The team leader monitors the qualitative achievements of the team culture and reports to coaching staff. The leader often works within the team, as a member, carrying out the same roles but with the additional ‘leader' responsibilities.

Honors Ambassador

Honors Ambassadors are a select group of University Honors students who represent the University Honors Program on campus and in the community. They take a leadership role assisting new students in their transition to Wittenberg and to the University Honors community. Honors Ambassadors also assist in recruitment efforts by welcoming prospective Wittenberg students at on- and off-campus events. Honors Ambassadors are a bridge between prospective and current Honors students and are a powerful resource for attracting and retaining students to Wittenberg and the University Honors Program.

Executive Student Ambassador--Admissions Office

The Executive Student Ambassador position is a leadership role. A pre-requisite for this position is being a tour guide and going through all the training prior to applying. These students also have previously proven their leadership traits/strengths prior to being offered this position. They work directly with our prospective students and their families and have the understanding of how important their role is to our visitors and the future of our university. As an Executive Student Ambassador, individuals are required to help with the hiring, scheduling, managing and training of all tour guides. They will assist with interviews, create daily tour guides schedules for the semester, manage a team of student workers, edit/update all training materials and be involved at all training sessions. Students will also oversee the Tour Guide web page and help keep it updated. In addition, they will assist with all visit programs throughout the semester, including planning, student staffing, prepping and more.

Wittenberg Police Leadership Program

Students will have opportunities to learn about police responsibilities and what they do during their shifts. They will consult with a supervising officer throughout the semester. They will help with events when needed, like Commencement, and go on ride-alongs when possible. They will complete a reflection paper at the end of the semester stating what they learned and how the police department can better serve the students at Wittenberg.

Resident Assistant

RAs are in training sessions for three weeks prior to the start of the fall semester. During these training sessions they are learning skills of confrontation, conflict mediation, diversity, programming, community building, university policies and resources. RAs do weekly 1:1 meeting with the Area Coordinator who is the supervisor and the AC does an end of the semester evaluation of the RA performance. They also have required number and type of programs they must complete depending on the student population they work with. A minimum of 3 programs are done in first semester.

Tiger Ventures

Tiger Ventures is a student-run and student-led organization devoted to running great businesses at Wittenberg. Each semester, members of Tiger Ventures at the Executive/C-Suite, Manager, and Crew levels actively engage in running their own businesses through Sips, Tiger Fuel, and Red Threads. They work well over 35 hours each semester on this experience and have regular check-ins with Timmy McCarthy, leader-in-residence, as well as Joi Garrett Scales to ensure they are staying on course. Students learn how to read a profit/loss statement, how to read a balance sheet, knowledge of cash flow and how to manage it, expenses and cost of production, and marketing, advertising, and promotions.

Tiger Team

Tiger Team members serve as a model representative of Wittenberg University as they work together to lead a group of 20-25 new students through Welcome Week events and activities. They also lead scheduled Tiger Team meetings with new students, following the assigned discussion topics, assist with programmatic aspects of Welcome Week, including but not limited to event setup and cleanup, distribution/collection of materials for new students, participation in student panels, program participation, facilitation, etc. This position includes 18-24 hours of training, 24 hours of peer leadership, and 4 hours of reflection-based activities or discussion.

Lab Assistant - Gross Human Anatomy

The student in this role will assist all labs for EXSC 350 - Gross Human Anatomy (minimum 4 hrs/wk for 15 weeks = 60hrs) and meet before every lab with instructor. This student also will help prepare all lab practicals (one per week) for the semester and present on lab assistant experience at the end of the semester.  Additionally, the student will be responsible for looking up materials (texts, atlases, peer-reviewed research) covering gross human anatomy.

Officer, Nursing Club

The purpose of the Wittenberg Nursing Club is to provide interested students a resource to discover more about a future career in nursing.  The Nursing Club will work to provide members with opportunities to learn about what it means to become a nurse along with providing development opportunities that will help them in their future career as a nurse. As an officer of the Club, the student is elected by peers and servers the role designated by the Club constitution from April through the following May. As a recognized student organization, the student officers are responsible for all inward and outward business of the Club. The time commitment varies depending on the activities planned by the Club, but officers are expected to participate in the planning, implementation, and follow-up for all activities.

Golf Team Captain

The Golf Team Captain serves as a peer leader who bridges communication between the coaching staff and players while modeling professionalism, integrity and sportsmanship. Captains are also influential in shaping team culture and reinforcing accountability.  Responsibilities include assisting with practice organization and setup; attending and often leading/demonstrating in practice; serving as team representative during events; assisting with pre-tournament preparation and travel coordination and logistics; participating actively in coach and leadership meetings and communicating key information from coaching staff to the team; providing peer mentorship and supporting team members; and conducting team meetings to foster morale, reiterate accountability and influence a positive culture. Regular meetings with the supervisor provide opportunities for feedback and improvement, as well as guided reflections. A final submitted reflection will encourage them to summarize their experience and growth as leaders, connecting their role to the broader learning outcomes of EXPR-100.

Men’s Basketball Team Captain

A team captain of the men's basketball team is the spokesperson for the program. They will be expected to lead a locker room of peers, lead study table hours, select gear for the team, help make decisions that will impact the group, and offer input on disciplinary issues when appropriate. Weekly meetings with coaching staff ensure everyone is well informed, provide opportunities to assess and improve various initiatives, and ask captains to reflect on their role among their peers, among other topics.

Student Senate Executive Board

Members of the Student Senate Executive Board vote in faculty meetings, represent student voices at large-scale official university events such as Welcome Week and convocations, and they execute the processes for managing students fee money and for determining the establishment of student organizations. They do this with a level of independence and know-how that mimic some professional positions on campus. Their advisor meets with the Executive Board members weekly or more to discuss items. Weekly executive board and general body meetings typically range from 1.5 hours weekly to 3 hours weekly for the duration of the academic year. Students will be required to complete the duties of their positions as outlined in the Student Senate constitution and complete a reflection on their experience as an executive board member. Students in the role of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Faculty-Student Coordinator, two Senior Class Representatives, Student Organizations Senator, and Public Relations are eligible to complete EXPR-100L during the spring semester for their experiences service on Student Senate.

Women’s Soccer Leadership Development

The Women's Soccer Leadership Development program is designed to provide leadership training to members of the Women's Soccer program. Members will take part in group reading, group discussions and welcome guest speakers as they learn and develop their personal and team leadership skills. Students will meet with coaching staff every three weeks during the semester to discuss leadership articles and development practices and host speakers for our leadership group. These meetings will allow them the opportunity to reflect and a final written reflection paper will be submitted at the end.
