The Planets by composer Gustav Holst is a delightful musical journey through our solar system with all its astrological history. Wittenberg Professor Emeritus of Physics, Dr. Daniel Fleisch, will present a production of The Planets by Holst with multi-media company The Now Device and your Springfield Symphony Orchestra. Beautiful space footage will be choreographed to the music on screens above the stage.
The Now Device is a visual media arts ensemble that melds sight and sound into unforgettable live performances.
Mankind has been fascinated by the stars and planets in the night sky since time began. Although Gustav Holst was thinking as much of astrology as astronomy in composing The Planets, the SSO’s production will feature amazing pictures of planets and the universe on three screens suspended over the orchestra as the music is performed. This production will combine the wonder of music and science in a spectacular exploration of our universe. This is an experience not to be missed!
