Internship Showcase Features Communication Majors' Summer Experiences

Brooke Erwin and Caroline EldridgeSeniors Brooke Erwin and Caroline Eldridge both dedicated their summers to work as interns at Ambience Events and The Ohio Machine.

Erwin worked at Ambience Events, which is a company that handles event planning out of Springfield, Ohio. While working eight hours a week, she managed to coordinate and set up weddings, proms, and corporate events.

“It’s rewarding knowing you can transform a place so plain, into something amazing,” stated Erwin.

Eldridge worked as a Public Relations Intern at the Ohio Machine a Major League Lacrosse team in Columbus, Ohio. She worked 9am-5pm everyday, writing press releases, creating profiles for the players, searching ways to sell ticket packages, and dealing with social media.

“One of the best parts of this internship was getting on the field and interviewing the players right after the game,” said Eldridge.

Both of these ladies incorporated their Communication courses such as: Group Dynamics, Interpersonal Relationships, Social and Mass media, and Uses and Gratifications Theory towards their internship experiences.

Not knowing if this is something they wish to pursue as a career, these interns learned how to build personal relationships with random people along with networking.

Erwin and Eldridge presented for the Communication Department Internship Showcase in order to fulfill the requirements for their Communication major.
