Literacy Focus

Literacy Focus degree= 36 credits

Ohio Reading Endorsement= 12 credits at the master's level + 3 credits from undergraduate literacy work

Students can receive the Ohio Reading Endorsement without being a degree-seeking graduate student. In order to receive the Ohio Reading Endorsement participants need to have completed at least 3 credits of undergraduate literacy course work, including a phonics course. The other 12 credits will be done at the master's level in the "Focused Inquiry" courses. Should participants want to move beyond the endorsement level,they can receive a literacy-focused master's degree and elect to take to the Ohio Reading Endorsement exam.The courses will include a combination of face-to-face courses as well as others that will be blended with online components.

Focused Inquiry courses (Reading Endorsement Courses) 

  • EDUC 525: Reading Development and Strategies across the Content Areas (4 credits)
  • EDUC 585: Research and Advanced Study of Language Arts and Reading (4 credits)
  • EDUC 605:Practicum in Reading (4 credits)
  • 100 hours of practicum
