Max Dosser teaches courses in public speaking, critical methods, media studies, and digital culture. At Wittenberg and elsewhere, he’s developed courses on topics such as fandom, media ecology, and visual culture. His classes invite students to examine how cultural rhetoric, media technologies and industries, and audiences shape the circulation of meaning.
Dr. Dosser's research focuses on speculative fiction media, fan cultures, and affect studies. His scholarship has appeared in a variety of journals, including Critical Studies in Media Communication, Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, and the Journal of Film and Video. His first book, Nostalgic Futures: The Reactionary Fantasies of Speculative Fiction Fandoms, was published in 2026. Beyond research, his creative work involves editing Flash Point Science Fiction and the anthology Tipping Point: Ecofiction for Tomorrow’s World. When he finds the time, he also writes science fiction drabbles, fantasy flash fiction, and folklore-inspired novelettes.
Dr. Dosser holds a B.A. in Chemistry and in Music in Liberal arts from Wake Forest University, an M.A. in Communication from Wake Forest University, and a Ph.D. in Communication & Rhetoric from the University of Pittsburgh.
