Degree Requirements:

Major in Sport Management (44 credits)

Required Sport Management courses (20 credits):

  • HSS 150: Introduction to Sport Management (4 credits)
  • HSS 222: Sport Marketing (4 credits)
  • HSS 380: Applied Projects in Sport Management/Approved Internship (4 credits)
  • HSS 301: Ethics in Sport Management (4 credits)
  • HSS 401: Sport Management Policy - senior-level capstone course (4 credits)

Required Business & other courses (16 credits):

  • ACCT 225: Financial Accounting - requires MATH 22 (4 credits)
  • BUSN 212: Research Methods (4 credits) + Statistics course (e.g., BUSN 210) (4 credits)
  • BUSN 365: Leading and Managing Effective Organizations (4 credits)

Sport Management; Health and Sport Studies (HSS); & other elective courses (8 credits):

  • HSS 225: Coaching Young Athletes (4 credits)
  • HSS 230: Contemporary Issues in Sport Sociology and Sport Psychology (4 credits)

Depending on the topic, the following could fulfill either category:

Minor in Sport Management (24 credits)

The Sport Management minor is comprised of 24 credits in the departments of Health and Sport Studies; and Business & Economics. 

Required courses:

  • HSS 150: Intro to Sport Management (4 credits)
  • BUSN 212: Business Research Methods (4 credits)

Eight credits from the following Sport Management courses:

  • HSS 220: Event Planning & Facility Management (4 credits)
  • HSS 221: International Sport Management (4 credits)
  • HSS 222: Sport Marketing (4 credits)
  • HSS 301: Ethics in Sport Management (4 credits)

An additional 8 credits are required from:

  • BUSN 365: Leading and Managing Effective Organizations (4 credits)
