Forensic Science PhotoNew Partnership

Students interested in a career in forensic science now have the opportunity to achieve both two degrees in five years. Wittenberg has entered into an affiliated agreement with Bowling Green State University (BGSU) that leads to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in chemistry from Wittenberg and a Master of Science in Forensic Science (M.S.F.S.) with a specialization in forensic chemistry from BGSU.

Designed to match outstanding students with award-winning faculty, Wittenberg's new First Year Research Awards (FYRA) program provided opportunities for 12 high-achieving students to pursue an exciting research project with a faculty member during their first year at Wittenberg. Projects spanned the academic disciplines from biology and sociology to education and English.

ELCA LogoTime In Texas

Wittenberg will be well represented at the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering to be held in Houston from June 27-July 1, with six students and four staff members from the Office of Admission and the Pastor’s Office attending. Alumni attending the event are invited to stop by the WhyGoLutheran.org area in the Interaction Center each day from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. to pick up a special alumni gift or look for Wittenberg in the NRG Dome each evening during the mass gathering.

Sustainability PhotoGoing Green

Wittenberg’s Sustainability Task Force is making great strides in the effort of “going green” across campus, recently establishing partnerships between the university, Parkhurst Dining Services and GoZero Services to compost food waste in the Center Dining Room (CDR) kitchen. Since then, more than 2,200 pounds of pre-consumer waste has been composted.

HWAHWA Update

Progress continues on the Health, Wellness and Athletics Facility, with much of the work focused on the 1929 Fieldhouse. Demolition of the HPER Center lobby began last month, and the reconstruction will continue through the summer. Concrete footings for steel columns in the new indoor practice facility are underway in preparation for the steel delivery in July.

Kate PolakAssistant Professor of English Kate Polak’s book, Ethics in the Gutter: Empathy and Historical Fiction in Comics (Ohio State University Press, 2017), was recently nominated for a Will Eisner Comic Industry Award, described by Comic Con International as “the ‘Oscars’ of the comics world.”

Madeline O'MalleyMadeline O'Malley '18 has found her perfect fit with the Peace Corps – a path she has been interested in since high school and one of the reasons she chose to attend Wittenberg. A participant in the university's summer study-abroad program in Lesotho, O’Malley will return to the South African Kingdom as a Youth Empowerment HIV/AIDs Volunteer this September for 27 months.
