Almost There!

The Bahamas Program 2014 is officially underway!

We spent the first day on Witt's campus, learning about sampling techniques, how to keep a detailed field notebook, how to use a GPS unit, and how to take detailed observations that are useful for describing what we see when we're overwhelmed by how cool things are.

In the evening, we had the weigh-in to be sure that everyone was below the 42-lb weight limit for the BahamasAir flights and then went to be early to be ready for...  the 4:00 AM departure from Witt's campus for our flight.

We had a long layover in Charlotte that some of us used to catch up on missed sleep, and we arrived in Nassau to beautiful sunny skies and a stiff tradewind breeze.  After an easy trip through immigration and customs in the new (at least to us) terminal, we arrived at our destination for the evening, the Orange Hill Beach Inn, aka Fawlty Towers Nassau.

In Nassau everyone was excited about getting into the water as soon as possible, so we did some snorkel training in the pool:

Afterwards, we had some time to go down to the beach right below the hotel and then had a great dinner.

We're all very excited about getting to San Salvador tomorrow and seeing the GRC!
