Wittenberg University's sick leave provisions are generous and are intended to provide for the employee during periods of illness. Sick leave is not an entitlement and is not earned wages; therefore, upon resignation, layoff, termination or retirement, the employee will not receive payment for accumulated sick leave.
Faculty
Allocated two months* of sick leave upon employment. Thereafter, the faculty member has the ability to accrue an additional month for each year of employment, up to a maximum of six months.
Administrative Staff
Allocated one month* of sick leave upon employment. Thereafter, the staff member has the ability to accrue an additional month during each year of employment, up to a maximum of six months.
Hourly Staff
Full-time employees accumulate one day of sick leave for each month in active pay status. Hourly staff may accumulate paid sick leave up to a maximum of 720 hours and sick leave begins to accumulate on the first day of employment. Sick leave is not paid until it is earned and in no event may it be used in increments of less than one hour.
Sick leave accrual is based only on time spent in pay status and is not accumulated when an employee is on leave without pay. For part-time staff members, this benefit is prorated. Four sick days, per calendar year, may be used to care for the staff member's parent(s), spouse or dependent that is ill.
