Today marks the five day countdown. We won’t be seeing any more groups that come in and leave before us. Most of us are experiencing bittersweet feelings, but are enjoying the rest of our time here. This morning, a few of us went out to Snap Shot Bay to collect some more data for our research topics. Later in the afternoon the second half of the class made their trip—courtesy of Captain Edbert—to the Gaulin Reef where some squid and other fascinating critters were spotted. Fortunately for those that went today, it was not cut short due to a rather big thunderstorm like it was yesterday. With both groups having seen the absolutely stunning coral reefs of Gaulin Reef, the second group then made its way towards Gaulin and Cato Cays and witnessed some bird breeding grounds. Among the birds flying around and on top of the breeding grounds were brown boobies, magnificent frigatebirds, and white-tailed tropic birds. After the second group returned, the majority of the class went to work on adding the finishing touches and practicing for our organism group presentations today. They all went pretty well and for the groups that went today, that’s just one more thing we can check off the list here. After the presentations were finished, we discussed our plans for tomorrow and how we will be making our first visit to The Wall, an area off the Bahamas where the water depth increses almost immediately and the bottom goes from being sixty or so feet to well over a couple thousand.
