Coverboard surveys are often used to document species of reptiles and amphibians. Researcher periodically check these coverboards and collect morphological data on species found there. If the individual is large enough, passive integrated transponders (PIT-tags - similar to microchips used to identify pets) are used to generate individual datasets that allow us to estimate movement and population size.
