Jessica Zawacki is an alumna from the Wittenberg History Department who graduated in 2003. Zawacki majored in History and was a double-minor in Education and German. She currently works as a sixth grade social studies teacher with courses in Geography, South American History and European History.  Even though her job may seem confined to a middle-school classroom at a glance, Zawacki actually gets to travel on a regular basis to teaching conferences. “I get to meet with other teachers learn how to incorporate new ideas into my teaching,” she says. In this way her job extends beyond the classroom and into a vast teaching community.

Zawacki adamantly expresses that Wittenberg more than prepared her for her job. “My degree gave me the background I needed to teach,” she says, noting that her favorite part of her job is when she gets to use her knowledge of history to teach some of the things she learned in college. Though Zawacki has been a teacher for seven years, she still vividly remembers the years she spent at Wittenberg. “I still treasure my college years in Wittenberg’s History Department,” she reflects. “I wouldn’t trade those for the world.” Zawacki recommends students take full advantage of the university’s History Department and their careers, saying “Do not be afraid to go for your dreams or ask for
