Fall 2020 Move-In Plans

(Updated 7/1/2020, 7/10/2020, 7/22/2020)

We are excited to welcome you back to your campus home this August. As members of the Tiger family, each of us have a responsibility to protect our fellow Tigers – students, staff, faculty, and our family and friends. The plans below have been developed to help all members of our Tiger family stay safe during move-in.

Given the need for physical distancing, move-in will be spread out over more time and will be scheduled in advance. It is vital that all students and helpers follow these precautions for everyone’s safety:

  • Monitor and self-quarantine as needed 14 days prior to move-in to ensure you are not symptomatic. This includes delaying your return to campus if you have been exposed to any individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 within that time.

  • Wear a face covering properly whenever you are in common spaces, including stairwells, hallways, bathrooms, lounges, etc.

  • Maintain physical distancing from others (ODH requires 6 feet). Due to the presence of helpers, this does include roommates, housemates, and suitemates as much as possible. When distancing is not possible in these situations, be sure to wear proper face covering for everyone’s safety.

  • Wipe down surfaces you touch in common spaces whenever possible.

Move-in times will be available for the general residential population beginning as early as August 3. While times will be available each day August 3-16, early arrival groups will have priority for certain windows of time to ensure they are able to return by their required arrival deadline. New incoming students will receive a specific day to register based on their FYS section.

The leaders for the early arrival groups noted above provide lists to Residence Life of students involved in those activities. If you have a question about whether or not you belong to one of the early arrival groups, please follow up with your group's leader and make sure your name was included on the list they provided to Residence Life. If you will be arriving before or after the designated time, please contact your group's leader AND the Residence Life Office (emailing housing@wittenberg.edu will suffice) to notify of a plan change.

Please make sure your arrival plans coincide with your group's designated arrival time. Any other early arrivals are not permitted and may be denied entirely or charged a daily fee.

If your early arrival deadline has changed due to changes with fall athletics, please know you can keep your check-in time that you already signed-up for – no change is necessary. However, if you would like to alter your plans, please send an email to housing@wittenberg.edu and we will delete your original time so you can select one that works better for you.

Sign-up for Move-in Time

Instructions for signing up for a move-in time was sent to all residential students by July 10 via their Wittenberg email. Sign-ups will occur through the online Housing System. Approved early arrival groups will have access to sign up for their move-in slot on Friday July 10. All other residents will gain access to the sign up system on Friday, July 17. Like class registration or housing lottery, as more time passes, more students will gain access to sign up for their move-in time; students should sign up as early within their assigned window as possible to ensure as many time options as possible. All students should sign up no later than July 26 to enable our office to properly prepare for their arrival. Any students without a move-in time will be automatically assigned a move-in time on Monday, July 27.

Each Student is permitted to have two helpers for move-in. Each Student will have their own move-in block; as much as possible roommates, suitemates, and housemates will not be permitted to sign up for the same move-in block to ensure distancing. Move-in blocks will be limited to:

  • Residence halls with elevators (Tower, New, Firestine, Ferncliff) – 1 hour block
  • Residence halls without elevators (Woodlawn, Myers) – 2 hour block
  • Sprecher & Keller - 3 hour block
  • Witten’Burbs residences – 4 hour block

During the move-in block, primary focus should be on getting the student’s belongings into the student’s residence and moving the vehicle to designated parking area. Once the move-in block ends, helpers should leave the residence if possible. If helpers are still assisting with room set-up, they need to remain in the student’s specific room and limit their time in common hallways, bathrooms, etc. to allow other students to move in without cross traffic.

Key Pick-up Location

Key pick-up will be as limited contact as possible. In most situations, keys will be through a drive-through pick-up system. Maps of arrival paths and parking options will be posted for each residence hall on the Residence Life website. All residents will pick up their keys at a central drive-thru check-in at the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and Bill Edwards Drive in the Tower parking lot. Please wear a face covering and bring your picture ID.

Move-In 2020 Maps

Fall meal plans will be active as of the Student’s scheduled move-in date. Precautions and procedures for campus dining will be shared in the coming weeks. Students that need to modify their meal plan arrangements have until the fourth day after their scheduled arrival or August 20, whichever is earlier. Changes can be made online through the MyWitt portal and Wittenberg Housing system. Instructions for meal plan selection are here.

Update as of 7/22/2020: Campus Dining this fall will look different as we continue to build in protective measures for the safety of our students and staff. Precautions include designating one-way traffic flow through servery spaces, moving to staff-assembled plates instead of self-serve buffets, and reconfiguring dining spaces to enable distancing between patrons. Students will also be required to sign up for their meal times each week through an online form. The weekly format will allow students to adapt to their changing schedule needs while still helping us reduce lines and crowds. We are also launching an online tool for students to be able to order a meal to-go if they’d prefer to limit their time in common dining spaces. Students will be sent more information about the sign-up process and the online ordering option in the coming week.
