Seasonal Music Opportunities

Private lessons are available in piano, organ, orchestral strings, guitar (acoustic and electric), hammered and mountain dulcimer; wind instruments: flute, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, and all percussion instruments; voice, and Suzuki violin and piano. Beginning ukulele lessons are also available upon request.

Music for Little Mozarts
A music and movement class filled with fun adventures for ages 3 and up. The curriculum is designed to guide the children in singing, dancing, and classroom instrument instruction. An instrument is not required at home. Join us as we embark on a journey with Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear as they discover the joy of music.
Dates: Mondays, starting September 17 for 7weeks

Beginning Piano Classes for Ages 5-9
Option of Tuesday evenings 4:30pm or Saturday at 1pm
This beginning piano class will introduce the student to the piano and begin to develop the necessary skills for playing, reading music notation, and listening techniques. After this class students will advance to private instruction. Please purchase the Faber Primer Piano Book.
Dates:Tuesdays for 4 weeks September 18, 25, October 2, and 9 at 4:30pm – 5pm, or Saturdays for 4 weeks September 22, 29, October 6 and 13 from 1pm – 1:30pm.

Beginning Guitar for All Ages
Find out if you really want to learn how to play the guitar by the method of reading music. Be prepared to listen to one another and learn to execute notes, rhythm and harmony. Learn how to change the strings and tune the guitar. Bring your own guitar and blank manuscript paper.
Dates: Mondays September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29

Beginning Piano for High School/Adults
Want to learn piano for the first time? Or, did you take lessons a long time ago and have now forgotten most of what you learned?! You've come to the right place! This class will teach basic note-reading, finger numbers, different hand positions, rhythms, chords, and more! You will be playing songs that you love in no time!! Please buy the book, "Accelerated Piano Adventures for the Older Beginner, Lesson Level 1" by Nancy & Randall Faber.
Dates: Tuesdays September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30
Time: 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Beginning Ukulele Class 
The beginner ukulele class is designed to be an introduction for students to gain the necessary tools that will enable them to play simple ukulele songs quickly and with ease. No musical background is needed. The course will cover basic strum patterns, fingerings, chords, and rhythm.
Book: Alfred's Basic Ukulele Method, Book 1.
Dates:  Mondays, September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and Nov 5

Your choice of Tuesday or Saturday Class
In a small group setting, students will learn to play the easy 3 string Mountain Dulcimer. Participants should bring their own dulcimer. You will be playing a song in 5 minutes!
Dates: Tuesdays September 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, and 23 or Saturdays, September 22, 29, October 6, 13, 20, and 27, 2018.

There are definite rules to writing a song and this knowledge underlies the basis of freedom within the creativity of the song itself. Learn the proper way to apply the rules of music without depending on a formula to portray your ideas. Both music and lyrics will be addressed. You must play an instrument and bring it to the lessons as well as a blank notebook and pencil.

Finale Course
Ever heard of Finale(tm) software? Want to learn how to use it to create music that can be played back to you as soon as you write it? Learn how to use the software and make music!
Dates: Tuesdays Sept. 18, 25, Oct 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, November 6
Time: 7pm – 7:45pm

Tutoring for High School AP/IB Music Help Class
This class offers extra help/tutoring for high-school students currently enrolled in an advanced placement music class at their school. Topics covered will include basic note-reading, music theory, music history, music appreciation, and more, depending on individual students' learning needs. Bring your class textbook from school, and a great attitude!

Music Theory (Late Elementary to Early Intermediate) for Ages 9-14
Prerequisite: Must have a minimum of 3 years of private piano lessons, or 4 years of experience in another instrument (private lessons or band). Students will learn about major and minor key signatures, meter, how to count and perform basic rhythms, as well as music history and ear-training. Please buy Fundamentals of Piano Theory Level 4 by Keith Snell (if you already own level 3 or 5, you can bring that instead!)
Dates: Tuesdays September 11, 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30
Time: 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Late Intermediate/Early Advanced Theory for High school and Adults
Prerequisite: Must have a minimum of 5 years of private piano lessons. Students will learn about the circle of fifths, composing techniques, meter, how to count and perform complex rhythms, music history, ear-training, and musical structure. They will also analyze the chord structure and form of select pieces of classical music. Please buy the book Fundamentals of Piano Theory by Keith Snell Level 7 (if you already own level 5, 6, or 8, you can bring that instead!)
Dates: Thursdays Sept 20, 27, Oct 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov 1, and 8
Time: 7pm – 8pm

Did you start playing a musical instrument when you were young and would like to play again? Did you start taking lessons as an adult and have wanted to play in a musical ensemble? Would you like to improve your playing of a musical instrument? The Late Starters Orchestra is for you!! The group will accept high school musicians and any adult musician who want to be in an ensemble, a fun and challenging experience. The orchestra will continue with a second session.
Dates: Tuesday evenings September 18 thru November 13
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
